CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF
THE LOVING KIND
In-love is not fatal,
A reality check almost always guarantees a cure.
Love, on the other hand, is deadly:
Incurable, irreversable, a terminal disease.
In-love is a product of chemistry,
The result of which is a burning desire for more.
Love, on the other hand, is a product of psyche,
Demanding that all its participants be willing to dance with
death.
In-love exists in the realm of games,
Games that carefree people play with each other.
Love, on the other hand, exists in the realm of drama;
A tragedy, whose innocent script is contaminated with compulsions
for control.
So please, when you ask me if I love
you,
And confess to me your undying love,
Remember that neither the latter statement nor the former question
Will bear witness to our survival.
