I always dreamed of becoming an artist. I don’t know exactly when it started, the idea was just there in my consciousness as far back as I can remember. Then my very practical father explained to me, “Artists don’t make any money unless they go into commercial art. There, you’ll sell yourself and your talent to a company. They own your work and they own you.” How frightening!

My father was right. However, I discovered that there are ways you can become an artist for yourself. It’s not difficult. It’s a life-style.

  1. Get a job.
  2. Forget about money. Your day-job will support you. Try to make it something you enjoy.
  3. Do your art. Seek constructive criticism, and create from your heart.
  4. Take classes. Learn from other artists, then build on their knowledge with your creativity and your imagination.
  5. Advertise. Art shows, galleries, art magazines, a website. (ART-TALES is one way I am sharing my art with you.)

If you want to know more about how I got started, click on the BIOGRAPHY link.

For even more advice, click on THE ARTISTIC CONNECTION link. There you will find tips I have learned myself, and many that I have learned from other artists. If you are not an artist, and don’t want to become an artist, but have a great appreciation for the arts instead, Welcome to Art-Tales!

This site is divided into sections that represent my different interests. Explore. Have fun. I would love to hear from you. Please send all of your comments or inquiries to: slschiefer@yahoo.com. Thank you for visiting ART-TALES. Come again.
